Tethered Blooms
with Wendy Ann Stanger

Textile mixed media art project

Special introductory offer: £65 until 7pm, 12th November

(Usual price £80 for lifetime access)

Capture nature between layers of delicate fibre

There’s a kind of magic in making paper you’ll only find in your own two hands. In Tethered Blooms, you’ll craft exquisite plant fibre paper from bamboo, mint and rose fibres — and learn Wendy’s signature technique for embedding real, dried flowers directly between the fibres so they become a permanent part of the surface.

You’ll begin by creating your own unique, softly felted papers, then develop your skills towards a larger, more curated artwork. And because nothing should go to waste, you’ll also get an exclusive bonus module: Tethered Remnants — where your precious paper scraps become stunning, long-form embroidered wall hangings.

What you'll learn

Wendy will show you how to:

  • Craft unique papers from plant fibres, including bamboo, mint and rose
  • Press and prepare flowers and botanicals for embedding in your work
  • Lay out fibres and design compositions that feel naturally beautiful
  • Permanently bond real dried blooms between layers of fibre
  • Add free-motion machine embroidery and hand stitch to embellish your surfaces with contrasting colour and texture
  • Gather every left-over remnant and collage them into embroidered wall hangings

Meet your tutor - Wendy Ann Stanger

Wendy Ann Stanger is a contemporary textile artist, educator and the creative force behind Blooming Fibres. A graduate of Cumbria College of Art, she spent over a decade teaching Art & Design before establishing her full-time professional practice.

Deeply inspired by the natural environment — from wild countryside to coast — Wendy’s work captures the seasonal rhythms of nature and the textures of the hedgerows. Her distinct “fibre fusion” technique blends natural plant fibres like bamboo and silk with real pressed botanicals, finished with free-motion embroidery.

Wendy works from her garden studio near Gretna and also welcomes visitors at her open studio at Farfield Mill in Sedbergh. She uses this tactile workflow as a form of creative therapy and is passionate about helping online students slow down, connect with nature, and unlock their own creative confidence.

More than following steps

One of the most exciting things about textile mixed media is the freedom to play, experiment and discover unexpected results. This workshop is about exploring plant fibres, enjoying the slow process and letting your own creative voice emerge naturally through experimentation.

By layering plant fibres, dried flowers and embroidery, you’ll create artwork that feels deeply personal, expressive and full of atmosphere. Sometimes the most exciting breakthroughs happen when we let go of perfection — and simply allow ourselves to play.
