Textile artist Linda Harvey

Meet your tutor - Linda Harvey

I’m Linda Harvey, a mixed media textile artist based in the historic city of York, North Yorkshire, with over 29 years of teaching experience. My work is deeply inspired by the places I explore, often capturing fleeting moments through instant photography. These images form the foundation of my creative process and play a key role in this workshop.

I’m particularly drawn to the quiet beauty of aged, weathered, and rusted objects, often incorporating recycled materials into my artwork to bring an eco-conscious element to my practice. Fabric manipulation is a true passion of mine, and I love transforming textiles through distressing, dyeing, and layering to create rich, tactile surfaces.

My artistic style is fluid and expressive. I often work on several pieces at once, using a mix of dyeing, stitching, painting, and printing to build depth and texture. In this workshop, you’ll see how I use these techniques, especially free motion stitching to bring a sense of life, movement, and narrative to textile-based line drawings.

Expect a creative, relaxed, and experimental approach as we celebrate imperfection, texture, and the stories told by time worn surfaces.
