Create richly layered collage landscapes inspired by the art of batik

Join textile artist Jenny O’Leary as she guides you through the exciting process of creating panoramic landscapes using batik (hot wax resist) and mixed media collage. You’ll make your own unique papers through playful mark-making and layering, then collage and stitch them into expressive landscapes full of texture and depth.

What you'll learn

In this joyful, hands-on workshop, Jenny will show you how to:
  • Use batik (hot wax resist) on tissue paper to create beautiful, patterned papers with texture and depth.
  • Explore oil pastel rubbings, stencils, and Milton or bleach to lift and layer colour in creative ways.
  • Build simple panoramic landscape collages using your handmade papers.
  • Add movement and line with free-motion embroidery, bringing your collages to life with stitch.
You’ll learn Jenny’s favourite methods for working with wax and inks — including how to remove colour and add it back in for stunning visual effects — and you’ll be encouraged to experiment freely with unconventional tools and materials.
